With February quickly approaching, we are right in the heart of engagement season. One of the most common questions I get asked is “where should we take our engagement pictures?”. With so many gorgeous spots across North Carolina the thought of hunting for the perfect location can be intimidating. Not only do you want a gorgeous backdrop but you want the location you choose to feel like “you”. These images should represent you, your fiancé and your love story. So if you are a goofy, laid-back couple – ball gowns and downtown Raleigh may not be your style. On the other hand if you really like those classy, romantic, high-end images a barn and cowboy boots may not be the right spot for you.
Whatever your personal style is your engagement session should be personal to you and your soon-to-be husband/wife! So I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite locations for you to start brainstorming! Take a peek at 5 super fun engagement session locations around the Raleigh area and if you have any other spots you adore, let me know in the comments below!

Historic Oak View Park – Raleigh NC
Historic Oak View is one of the most popular locations my couples choose. It has something everyone can love. The gorgeous brick walkways and open fields lend to a beautiful background for any style. Regardless of if you prefer a more laid back or more formal look Historic Oak View has something for you.
Lake Benson – Garner NC
My parents live pretty close to Lake Benson and I’ve always enjoyed spending time here on those gorgeous spring NC days but it also quickly became one of my favorite photography spots. It provides open fields and beautiful blooms if you go during the right season. It’s perfect if you like that soft, romantic, light and airy feel to your photos.
Downtown Raleigh – Raleigh NC
One of my favorite reasons for shooting in Downtown Raleigh is because there are so many ways to get diversity here. There are endless spots to stop at and so many cute little corners. No two sessions shoot in Downtown will ever look the same and I think that is so fun! Also, if I’m being honest another reason I love shooting downtown is because I stop for Sushi at my favorite sushi place, Sushi Blues, EVERY TIME.
Fearrington Village – Chapel Hill NC
The hidden gem. I adore Fearrington Village. It reminds me of a quaint European town with the cutest little shops and restaurants. It has a very romantic feel so if that is the vibe you are going for then look no further because this is the perfect spot for you!
Somewhere special to you!
I adore shooting at every location I listed but my favorite is when my couples ask me to shoot somewhere that is special to them. I’ve had couples invite me to private land, the town that they met, their first date location, or even the college campus they attended together. It pushes me to be creative with the location and has always resulted in some of my FAVORITE images. So don’t be afraid to ask about going somewhere outside of the box!
As you can tell, there are a million different places to take your pictures. Wherever you choose will be gorgeous! Make it a whole thing – have your hair done, get your nail painted, hire a makeup artist and really pamper yourself. This is a huge milestone in your life, have fun with it!!
